Comments: The Tigers and the royals put together probably the most exciting game of the trip so far. Robertson and Greinke both kept the game close and in the 8th inning Teahen (KC) grounds to the shortshop Renteria who flubs the play at 2nd, allowing the winning run to score. Royals closer Soria pitches the 9th and has a 1-2-3 inning, making an unbelievable play at first to save an E3 and secure the 1 run win.

Kaufmann Stadium is a gigantic crescent made out of concrete. The entire crescent faces a gorgeous, HD jumbotron. Very few people were there, and it was a gorgeous night, ~68 degrees and overcast. Even though its almost entirely made out of concrete, the stadium does not overshadow the game, its somewhat minimalist design allows the fan to forget the stadium and concentrate on the field.

Fountains are what makes any city great, right? Kansas City would like to think so. The place is teeming with them. Every block some city planner has expressed the sentiment that fountains make everyone and everything look prettier and happier. Well it's tough to overlook the 15 cop cars that were all blazing their sirens downtown, and despite the fountains, I definitely did not feel it the safest and happiest area of the city.

What makes Kansas City a better place are good ol' Texans like my elementary school chum Miranda. We haven't seen each other for something like 7 years, and still we got back into it like we had never left. People who have known each other for so long pull a comfortable warmth around each other, making words, gestures and communication so dependable. Probably because you understand what each other MEANS vs what each other SAYS. We caught up, made dinner, went to the game, and I got the grand tour of KC and its unique mix of fountains, police cars, and WW I monuments.

On my way out of the city I stopped at a BBQ place called Oklahoma Joe's. The moment you step inside the GAS STATION, you know this place is legit. The numerous awards, including "the best barbeque sauce in the world" trophy, with a BBQ sauce gravy boat sitting on top of a globe, help you understand the culinary brilliance. The first bite confirms all suspicions. It was a great send from the city known for its barbeque.
